On Monday October 2nd at 6:00pm we will be changing the password transmission policies of our server.
Up until this point we have permitted cleartext logins and logins with older encryption protocols, while adding support and recommending newer more secure protocols. We did this to ensure support for older and non-standard email and ftp clients, as well as web browsers.
In light of recent events, locally, nationally, and globally, we feel it would be irresponsible to continue to take such a lax stance on the data that drives your lives and businesses. Monday night we will be discontinuing use of all cleartext logins, SSL v1, 2, 3, and TLS v1.0. This will effect the way you log into your email and FTP clients.
To help ease this transition, we have collected a number of tutorials for making the necessary changes. We will also be recommending all users change their passwords, and have included some information on what makes a strong password, and why this kind of security is important to you and your businesses.
This will require us to do a full restart of the server. Be aware that this may effect any emails, website access, or processes the server may be running on your behalf. In order to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible, we recommend you schedule your Monday to end all email and online tasks between 5:30 and 5:45pm.
